The Long Island Pine Barrens Society (LIPBS) is dedicated to promoting the preservation of the Long Island Central Pine Barrens as open space and raising awareness of the issues facing Long Island’s water quality. Best known for our political campaign to protect the pine barrens that led to the region’s state designation as a nature preserve in the 1990s, our organization has been the leading resource for education on this remarkable ecosystem for over forty years.
