The
Brookhaven National Laboratory
Citizens Advisory Council was created in response to contamination of water and land at the sprawling 4,500-acre Department of Energy research facility. BNL occupies a large portion of the Central Pine Barrens including both the Core Preservation Area and the Compatible Growth Area. Extensive clean-up is continuing at the site. The Society is a member of the BNL CAC and is represented at its monthly meetings.
The Society led the campaign to obtain increased federal funding for
cleanup of the laboratory, backed by U.S. Senator Charles Schumer.
